POLICE - Good news, bad news
Today’s papers have both good news and bad news about the police.
The first story about the cops who arrested a gang with a stolen car and an array of weapons shows the risk and difficulties associated with keeping crime at bay.
Congratulations to the men and women in blue for having solved quite a few important cases during the past few months.
The other noteworthy story is about the heist of handguns from a police armoury and this indicates a sense of complacency in a supposedly secure zone.
It appears that the surveillance systems in such areas are below the standard of the weapons being stored there.
I believe we should ensure these weapons are properly safeguarded with the following measures:
1.Limit the number of such weapons stores, perhaps 2 or 3 per state.
2.Upgrade the security measures with CCTV and 24-hour dual monitoring from a central location in each state.
3.All weapons to be stored in an alarm monitored zone with the code only known to the camp commander and his assistant.
It is interesting that the robbers took only the weapons that are easy to conceal. We can expect an upsurge of armed robberies in the coming months.
If it is an inside job, it only shows that the honest men and women in the police must get rid of the few bad apples that can spoil the whole apple stack.
