Stupid is as Stupid Does

“Life is like a box of chocolates” is a famous line from the movie Forest Gump that featured a simple-minded hero but with a heart of gold.

Looking at the manner in which the Family Law got forced through Parliament, it gave the semblance of legislative rape when the women did not want to consent but were forced to obey the directive from the Cabinet. There was a promise that the kinks would be smoothened out once the law was approved.

We have a kinky government; one that forces the passage of unjust laws but tries to look good by hoping to get things right after umpteen attempts.

This family law was not really that urgent and no public security was involved. It seems that the overwhelming majority of the government has given it the arrogance to ignore the pleas of the victims of the new law – single parents and neglected children.

How are we ever going to build a nation of towering citizens when we cannot come up with proper legislation but want to conquer meaningless tasks like putting the Malaysian flag on the Pyramid?

Maybe it is time for women to empower themselves as the men don’t seem to get it. But do the women really want it? Women are becoming better educated than men and perhaps an all-women’s political party may be able to claim their rights in Malaysia.

Who knows what type of chocolate the government will dish out next? The last one really tastes of crap.
