The Law is an Ass or Are We Asses to Make Such Laws?
So the NRD wants to make headlines by warning Malaysians to carry MyKad.
RM20,000 fine or 3 years jail?
It sounds really harsh for such a minor offence. Perhaps the NRD is working overtime to try and catch all those illegals who were issued Malaysian ICs through various syndicates, possibly even with some inside collusion.
Do ordinary folks have to stomach this type of attitude? Surely the police and Rela have better things to do like catching those gang robbers.
Malaysians should protest against this harsh penalty as it seems excessive. After all we did agree to having ICs unlike the USA and the UK where it is deemed an invasion of privacy though they are considering such a security document now.
Many ICs are lost on account of snatch theft and robbery and the replacement is not free. So many Malaysians keep the IC in a safe place unless they really need to prove their identity.
I would suggest the following would be a more practical arrangement that will be accepted by most law-abiding citizens:
1. You need to carry your IC if travelling outstation or more than 30 km from where it is kept.
2. If you are caught without IC, the police will take you home to get the IC and also charge you RM20 to RM50 for the service.
3. You may be required to wait at the police station until the official transport has the minimum number of passengers.
I always carry the MyKad as it contains only the minimum details. BTW if you have Astro you can check the details in your MyKad.
