Looks like Inflation in Malaysia is about 360%
Remember the Latin America of the 60s?
In those days inflation was rampant in places like Argentina where a sack of sugar in the morning would double in price if you decided to buy it in the evening.
Malaysians too are experiencing inflation with most uncontrolled items going up by 20% if you go by your plate of chicken rice or fried noodles that has gone up by RM0.50 in the past month from RM3.00.
So what 360% am I complaining about? A few months ago, our famous crooked bridge project was cancelled and it was reported that the compensation was estimated at RM100 million.
However today’s report indicates that the contract may have included an inflation clause based on some commodity like steel prices.
So the Works Minister is upset that the contractor is claiming much more than the contract. Maybe we should ask the minister who approved this contractor for the crooked contract?
If his own numbers are correct, why does he have to wait for Cabinet approval to release the official findings so that taxpayers are not taken for another expensive ride?
We hope the PAC will have a good look at the contract to ensure we put a stop to spurious claims by anyone.
Is there not a law to deter cheats?
