No More Pussyfooting Please
It only happens in Bolehland.
Ministers getting away with not settling their traffic offences, some committed even in the last millenium.
Perhaps the old JPJ or police computers are still sorting out problems related to the new millenium. By not settling the fines promptly the police have given them a discount of almost 60%. Are they holding out for more?
Sometime last year, I was leaving JB in my wife’s car that has a Singapore plate. The police stopped me and told me there were 4 summons, all for speeding on the NSH. The total amount was about RM600 and I had to leave the car and come back with the money although the police were kind enough to tell me that they would accept settlement for half the summons. Not a discount but they would accept payment for at least two summons; the balance to be paid later.
Of course I am annoyed that the police have been so kind to discount the summons for ministers. This is a bad example and gives the impression that discounts are the discretion of the police officers. What message does it give? The more you owe and the longer you delay the more the police are prepared to discount your compound fines?
We should seek an explanation why action has been delayed for so long. Not weeks but years have passed for this travesty of justice.
By delaying the action against ministers, the police may have given some the impression that they are immune from the laws of the nation. If police cannot take action for a minor offence, how do they arrest a minister for serious ones?
Other countries are not so forgiving and even prominent people are hauled to court.
I suggest that to be fair to all ordinary citizens, the police should withdraw the discounts and give all these offenders a week to settle their fines or be arrested.
