Make Sure the Job is Appropriate
I think the government has responded well to the plight of the widow of commando Moorthy by offering her a job.
However given the unhappy episode with the forced burial of her husband as a discovered Muslim, we should make sure that the job offered is appropriate and ensures safety for all concerned.
We should not place her in a position where unforeseeable incidents can arise. Packing ammunition is a hazardous job for most and we must ensure that this gesture is not exploited.
I suggest a more suitable job would be clerical duties or even welfare duties like informing other non-Muslim families of new converts to Islam.

Responded well? I'm too cynical to think that they actually had it all worked out before Moorthy's wife justifiably threw a challenge to the system. Looks more like damage control to me after the case was given wide coverage in the papers and got the public up in arms after the High Court judges washed their hands off this matter. I'm not the only one thinking that someone thought up this brilliant idea of throwing money at this problem to make it go away, which sadly almost always worked in Malaysia. Now I also wonder if any editors who worked up this story to a frenzy will get the "China Press" treatment for stirring up "religious sentiments".
