A Variation of “Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire”.
Older readers will remember this saying that was taught in schools. It implies that there is usually some truth in the rumours that you hear.
This is not the first government department that has suffered a fire. I recall there was also a fire in RIMV some years ago that destroyed various files.
It somehow seems suspicious when a fire breaks out that destroys official documents that may be evidence for corrupt practices.
In the IT age when the government is promoting greater transparency and better delivery systems, it should be easy to implement systems whereby all government documents are scanned and stored in a central database so that accidental (?) fires do not destroy evidence.
With a central database, it would be much easier for the BPR to check documents for comparison purposes and to provide them with a more powerful system that would be easy to operate to check for dubious practices.
Until such a duplicate setup is created, any incident of a fire should trigger a routine inspection of the relevant officials’ life-style and assets.
