Happy Birthday Singapore!
Singapore will soon celebrate its 40th anniversary of Independence.
Despite its great success, even the founder Lee Kuan Yew has admitted that Singapore could have achieved more if he had managed to persuade the Tunku to work towards the "Malaysia for Malaysians" concept instead of the race based politics we have now.
Malaysia and Singapore have important links and many citizens have relatives on both sides of the Causeway.
While some complain that Singapore "robs" Malaysia of her talents via a brain drain, one cannot deny that the many thousands of Malaysians who work in Singapore are a vital source of foreign exchange for Malaysia.
One expects that Johor Baru will become a ghost town if not for the many workers and day trippers.
Let us hope that Malaysia and Singapore will continue to work together for many more years.
So Happy Birthday Singapore!
