The Key to Achieve Vision 2020?
Education could be the most important key for Malaysia to achieve Vision2020 instead of the arbitrary figure of 30% equity that has been demanded.
As the AP scandal proves, government policies that are not transparent and open to public discussion can create massive undermining of a good policy. After 35 years of a bad implementation, we need to reexamine the problems related to such an objective. Some even may think the NEP stands for "Never Ending Policy" and those main beneficiaries the "Nebulously Enriched Parasites."
What good is 30% share of equity worth for national stablility if 90% of that wealth is vested in 10% of the most powerful and influential people who control everything?
What is required is a massive push to create at least one graduate in each Malaysian family for I believe that will provide us the best chance to tranform Malaysia and create a population that can make good decisions for the national good.
Those of us who are above 50 years old will know of a family that started off very poor but whose lives were transformed after just one generation on account of having just one graduate in the family.
This means that even within a short period of 4 or 5 years after secondary school, a new graduate can begin to make a world of difference to his own family.
Instead of targetting thousands of the underprivileged, our policies have been more like throwing tons of mud on a wall at a time (with mega projects), if some stuck it would create a multimillionaire and hopefully, he would in turn throw smaller lumps on mud on his own wall to create a few rich people.
Now we all know there is a heap of mud on the floor and the carpet is just too small to hide all that mess.
Let us have a policy to provide one scholarship to ALL Malaysian families based on the following criteria:
1. No sibling is a graduate
2. Required to serve the government for three to five years after graduation
3. Family total income below RM5000 per month
I am sure that this will definitely provide the civil service a good pool of talents, create a bigger group of middle-income families and prove that the government is truly serious about income redistribution.
If the family member is really unable to qualify to enter university, he or she would be given technical skills training.
