Now for Some Humble Pie...
I was wrong yesterday to imply that the government would not respond to the Customs’ grouse that their work had been affected by all the fuss over the farewell parties for the retiring DG.
So today I have to eat some humble pie and congratulate the Chief Secretary for a swift and definite response. No one in enforcement agencies can have this type of attitude or we will have anarchy in the country.
Perhaps they should really examine how they promote officials who have the temerity to make such ridiculous remarks?
However the remark by the DG about the DPM was fair comment and the reporters could have checked a little more. We should have have the scenario where ministers are above inspection unless they are above the law?
Meanwhile that pie looks tempting. My favourite is apple pie. Anyone else for a slice?

It is indeed ridiculous for an enforcement agency to throw in the towel just because they can't take the pressure of public scrutiny. The first place the organization was created was to enforce the regulations and laws of the land on products that are brought into or sold out of the country. Thus it is this very nature that makes it accountable to the public.
Kudos to the Chief Secretary. Halil is trying to 'menegakkan benang basah'. I don't see what's his problem, why trying to display such bravado, he could be very professional in his duties in this last few months. I'm sure he wants to be remembered as an outgoing responsible DG rather than outgoing scandalous DG.
:-(
In fact the person responsible for such a statement should be severely reprimanded for it.
It seems to be a more serious discipline problem than the DGs farewell bashes.
