Sending the Wrong Signals
The Star frontpage reads Police shake-up but it seems the actions taken appear to be merely sweeping under the carpet or just a little stirring-up.
The main cause of concern is that it appears that one set of rules are applied to the general public but a more lenient or lax set is preferred against miscreant police officers.
The main item is a former deputy OPCD who was transferred to a desk job who is alleged to have amassed a substantial amount of assets and money during his service.
If a senior officer is merely tranferred to a desk job instead of being prosecuted according to standing procedures, why should junior officers bother about complying with rules and regulations?
This case would have been an excellent case for the Attorney-General to bring to trial so that the public can gain a little more confidence in our justice system.
It appears that we are not really serious about the fight against corruption and police wrong-doings. Meanwhile we have not heard and seen any other developments after the release of the Royal Commission on the Police.
