Best Wishes to All Those Who Celebrate the Lunar New Year
It will be a dog-gone year for most of us unless things improve markedly in terms of corporate governance, government transparency and more action to rescue our falling competitiveness.
But I wish all my Chinese readers Hong Hee Fatt Choy!
Since it is the year of the dog, do you think we should be able to train dogs to snoop out corruption? After all they are used to sniff for drugs – even pigs do that.
The court is now set for the dogfight between Anwar and Mahathir and it will prove a dog eat dog case. If you like the notion of every dog has its day, Anwar may be the winner. Was he born in the year of the dog?
The Metramac case is also developing into a dog’s breakfast and it will be interesting to follow developments. The ACA has no far proved to be a toothless watchdog in the goings on.
I like Daim’s request for Cabinet papers to be declassified and also the DPM’s remark that it was up to the Cabinet to decide on this.
We are all dog-tired hearing all the arguments, as it seems the country is going or gone to the dogs.
Do you think they will declassify those documents or choose to keep it all secret pleading the USA’s Fifth Amendment?
Malaysia should pass a Freedom of Information Act so that all documents are made available to the public after 20 years. This is not just for the sake of keeping leaders honest but also to enable scholars and historians to chart the country’s progress and development.
Now do you think we should all give a collective bark at the authorities?
