Hand-phones in Schools – Bad Decisions over a Simple Problem
The recent decisions on hand-phones show how the government simply cannot make good decisions even on a simple problem.
Everyone knows that the hand-phone is just a communications tool that is a major component of our daily lives. Many people, unlike me, simply cannot leave home without it.
Like every tool, it is the user who defines whether it is used for a good purpose or a bad one as the Squatgate incident shows.
No government should make flip-flop decisions like the one made over hand-phones in recent weeks.
It appears as if policy makers are not capable of making decisions that will affect us for the long-term.
The government should have done the following in the hand-phone in the schools controversy.
1. Make it a trail period of perhaps two months to gauge problems.
2. Allow headmasters of schools to make the decision.
3. Have proper rules on types of phones allowed – example no camera phones.
4. Students to adhere to strict use only before and after school hours.
Since students have now been banned until more good sense prevails, are teachers allowed to get SMS and personal calls during lesson time?
