The Reason for Proton’s Price Fall?
Malaysia is a really interesting country – we seem to want to establish all types of Guinness World Records.
Take Proton’s share price over the past year. Ever since the AP scandal broke, Proton has come under great public scrutiny; with the very public falling out of Dr M and Rafidah and even between Proton and Dr M who is the advisor to the company.
So the share price has fallen to new lows especially when the talks with VW broke down.
It really does no one any good when the advisor to the company goes on public record that they do not consult him anymore. It shows little respect to the former Prime Minister who was the brain-child of the company and it also shows up his recalcitrant tendency by refusing to just resign. Are the perks really that fantastic as advisor?
It is suggested that all advisor post should have a “use by” date and two years of an initial appointment would be a reasonable offer. All GLCs should give such letters as a standard offer so we do not have to be subjected to such unpleasant public spats.
The Proton BoD should issue such a new appointment letter to replace any open-ended one. Even directors have an age limit so the advisor’s post may have a similar clause of being subject to annual approval.
With the ongoing spat between Proton and its advisor, one is reminded of the phrase, “with friends like these, who needs enemies?”
