Mykad Good News and Bad News
I recently collected the Mykad of my mother-in-law and was pleased that there was no fine of RM100 for late collection.
There is this notice of a RM100 fine if you do not collect within 90 days of notification but I don’t think anyone has been fined for this. Good for the citizens but not a good practice to inculcate good habits.
Why bother to place such a notice if no one bothers about it.
The other procedure that was not followed was that the staff did not ask my relationship or my Mykad to check if we came from the same address.
I then went to another counter to check the details on her Mykad and my own for religion. Not very convenient as I had to wait for the officer to key in the particulars.
The other good thing I observed is that there is a prominent notice in yellow placed at all issuing counters informing the public that the plastic covers sold are for the Sports and Welfare Club.
The covers used to be “passed off” as part of the registration procedure when the staff gave you the article like birth certificate and the plastic cover and requested RM1.
Of course RM1 is not a large amount but thousands of Malaysians throng these offices daily and I think the accounting of such receipts was subject to abuse as now the public is asked to get a receipt for the money.
One last thing about the Mykad. My brother-in-law did not know that we had already applied for his mother’s Mykad and he applied for her again when she was visiting him in KL.
Guess the JB computer is not feeding into the central database. One simple solution to prevent this is to punch a small mark at the corner of the IC while the Mykad is being processed.
