Committees - Malaysia's Growth Industry
The formation of committees seems to be the fashion of the Malaysian authorities. Perhaps we should ponder on what some people have said about committees.
I found these quotes here
"To get something done a committee should consist of no more than three people, two of whom are absent". ~Robert Copeland
"A committee is a group that keeps minutes and loses hours". ~Milton Berle
"To kill time, a committee meeting is the perfect weapon". ~Author Unknown
"If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be 'meetings'."~Dave Barry, "Things That It Took Me 50 Years to Learn"
"If computers get too powerful, we can organize them into committees. That'll do them in". ~Author Unknown
"Our age will be known as the age of committees". ~Ernest Benn
"A committee is a cul-de-sac down which ideas are lured and then quietly strangled". ~Barnett Cocks, attributed
"If Columbus had an advisory committee he would probably still be at the dock". ~Arthur Goldberg
"A committee is an animal with four back legs". ~John le Carré, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
"A 'Normal' person is the sort of person that might be designed by a committee. You know, "Each person puts in a pretty color and it comes out gray."" ~Alan Sherman
This site also has some insights.
"Committee - a group of men who individually can do nothing but as a group decide that nothing can be done".
Fred Allen
"The optimum committee has no members".
Norman R. Augustine
The third site produced these gems.
"A committee is a group of the unwilling, chosen from the unfit, to do the unnecessary".
Anonymous
"If you want to kill any idea in the world today, get a committee working on it".
Author: Charles F. Kettering
"When it comes to facing up to serious problems, each candidate will pledge to appoint a committee. And what is a committee? ;A group of the unwilling, picked from the unfit, to do the unnecessary. But it all sounds great in a campaign speech." Author: Richard Long Harkness
So which would you select as appropriate for all those Cabinet committees?
Perhaps with such an oversized Cabinet, it is necessary to split the members into manageable groups so that some work can actually get done?
