Proton bought a “Pig in a Poke” and now decides it has become a “Millstone around One’s Neck.”
Since the government is now promoting English, it is appropriate to look at two idioms that can describe some recent events.
According to this story, the Proton board did not get all the important and critical details before they approved the investment in MV Augusta. In simple terms, they bought a “pig in a poke.”
Once the new BoD realised the massive financial burden that MV Augusta would place on Proton, they decided that it was simply not justified to take such risks as the undertaking would be like a "millstone around one’s neck.”
It would be a major handicap and could even be a threat to one’s existence.
