The Simple Truth about Our Commissions

With all the murky waters surrounding the setting up of the IPCMC and the public rejection by the police, it seems that the power of the people is being further diminished in a democratic society.

Now a minister says that SUHAKAM was always meant to be a toothless tiger; just a government PR exercise so that Malaysia can claim that it promotes human rights and that’s all.

All talk and no action. With no powers to take action when human rights are abused. In the phrase of the minister, we can all wait “till the cows come home” when he described the futility of street protests.
It looks as if any IPCMC may be set up as per SUHAKAM; a doddering toothless public relations set-up that will soon lose all credibility.

Now is the IPCMC is going to be formed like SUHAKAM, why does it take months for the AG to draft the toothless framework? It should be a case of, “Been there, done that.”
