Anyone with just a Law Degree Can Become a Magistrate?
I have nothing against royalty becoming part of the judicial system. We had a very respected Lord President in the present Sultan of Perak.
In fact they should be praised for taking the effort to study law as this is one area that has seen much travails during the past 30 odd years as Malaysian leaders grappled with ruling and controlling a multi-racial country.
For new doctors, you have to go through the dreaded housemanship that really makes your life miserable with the absurd hours and minimal pay.
So it is rather surprising that one can become a magistrate one month after qualifying with a Law degree. There is no need to do articleship and be called to the Bar?
It seems that the courts were even renovated to accommodate the latest employee. That is the first indication that justice has not been served.
In my opinion, she should have worked as a lawyer for perhaps five years before accepting the post as a magistrate as that would have given her a more firm grounding in the practice of law.
