Witness Protection? That’s a Sweet Story.
It has been proposed that a witness protection act be passed so that those people can report wrongdoing without fear of reprisals.
Such a scheme will require very good coordination between the ACA, the police and the justice department and also a very high level of integrity and good people in charge of these departments.
Unfortunately recent events show that all these departments have been tainted and the public perception is that it is better to have as little as possible to do with them.
Just look at the reluctance of the ACA to take action even when people make public statements about corruption, the much maligned and abused judiciary and the on-going saga of the frozen IPCMC.
So before we even go there, let’s forget about witness protection unless all these departments redeem themselves in the public’s eye.
Let’s solve a much simpler problem. Catch hold of all those hoarding sugar and prove we can get something done effectively. Sugar is a simple object to control.
With a flawed protection program, a witness may get more than he planned. He might just disappear off the face of the earth.

Agree with you, we should just forget about such schemes.
Why would we need another scheme ? Is it another way to siphon off the people’s money?
The claim that the people “are scared to give information” is just an excuse to hide the almost total lack of action by the ACA. The people are only scared of the complete silence by the ACA on matters already reported to them.
The famous Citizen Nades has handed over to the ACA numerous documents relating to what can be termed “corrupt practices” but what has happened ? Nothing!! But then of course, the ACA are not obliged to keep the complainant informed of what they are doing or what they have done.
By the way, Citizen Nades has not asked for any protection even though he is keen to be a witness. Is there will to combat corruption or is this mere hogwash ?
The experiences of Citizen Nades as chronicled in his weekly THE SUN column is enough evidence that our present govt is impotent to weed out corruption within its ranks.
When the facts were presented to them in black & white, they choose to "close both eyes". Those guys probably wished that someday soon, Nades would give up when he gets tired of not getting a response.
