Words that Can Inspire Us
John Kennedy is my all-time favourite US President.
Maybe I’m biased as I was a Form3 student when the Cuban missile crisis happened and we had a la Salle brother as the form teacher and he kind of told us what was happening.
At the time it seemed that a nuclear confrontation was inevitable with Kruschev testing out the young President by building missile silos in Cuba. There was a naval blockade and the Soviets blinked.
You can even listen to meetings held during that dangerous period here as there is the Freedom of Information Act in the USA.
Kennedy had a fantastic speechwriter in Pierre Salinger
and these are some of the phrases we should ponder.
“Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.”
“There are risks and costs to a program of action, but they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction”
“All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talents.”
