Too Many Pilots Will Not Help MAS Takeoff
It is good that MAS has found a capable Malaysian to become the CEO and also an experienced expatriate to be the Operations Director. I consider the latter appointment to be key to helping Idris to turn MAS around.
If you have flown in an airplane, you will know that the captain and his co-pilot are in control of the plane with technical inputs from the flight engineer.
When a plane is flying in a mountainous area the captain must be in full control and cannot be disturbed by advice from the first class passengers on which direction to fly or at what altitude. Some passengers may also tell the pilot to do nothing but keep things the same. This is surely a recipe for disaster and under such a situation, we have to place our lives in the hands of the captain.
Therefore it is bemusing to read the various stages that the MAS turn-around plan has to undergo before it is implemented. Already our PM has told everyone to let the new team at MAS to get on with the job.
It appears that the “final plan” now needs the blessing of the Prime Minister before it can be implemented. Surely we do not need so many high powered people involved?
Is it a case of “More men, less blame”?
Based on the NST story, the following are going to be consulted before the plan can be finalised:
MAS Board
Khanazah
Finance Minister
Transport Minister
Meanwhile that plane is about to crash on that looming mountain.
