Are We Being Overrun by Aliens?
An incident reported in the last fortnight prompted me to research the topic of permanent residency in Malaysia.
In that case, a jobless Indonesian with PR status was caught trying to register a baby of illegals as his own so that the child would be a Malaysian citizen.
Under Malaysian law, it appears a child born to a PR is granted citizenship, unlike many countries where the most that is granted is the right of abode but not citizenship.
Thus it appears that we have opened the door to another money-making schemes where foreigners visit Malaysia, marry locals and attain PR status rather easily as it is under the purview of the Director-General of Immigration.
If this department operates ala MITI, the Minister in charge may also be too busy to safeguard the national interests and allow subordinates to approve unqualified applicants.
Meanwhile if you study the data provided by the Immigration Department, the numbers are quite alarming.
The statistics on Arrivals and Departures show that the number of illegals in Malaysia for the period 2000 to 2004 was about 27 million.
How do I arrive at this number?
A summary of the stats provide the following:
Year Total arrival Total departure Difference Percent
2000 8779607 3736054 5043553 57
2001 9440933 4025833 5415100 57
2002 9907710 4787111 5120599 52
2003 11228359 5438251 5790108 52
2004 15452112 9599125 5852987 38
Totals 54808721 27586374 27222347 50
The figures show a consistent increase in overstaying and unless this data is unreliable, we have millions of illegals resident in Malaysia.
Sorry I don't know how to insert the table, but do visit the Immigration Site and discover some other interesting data.
