Flying the Unfriendly Skies..
Do you think that somehow the MAS Board of Directors misunderstood the WAU exercise of 2002? At that time they transferred all the aeroplanes to PMB under the huge umbrella and pockets of Khazanah which collects all our taxes and other profits from the nation's wealth.
Now that is the danger of using exotic terms like wau. Perhaps our MAS board may have thought, "Good, now we don't have to worry about oil prices. After all, as every child knows, kites just need a long string to take flight."
That is why they did not do any operations revamp or improvement after the financial exercise. After all, they did create profits the next year by such a simple sleight of accounting.
It was simply too easy. Anyone could be the Managing Director and that is why they transferred the previous MD out before the airline was really on a sound footing.
One just wonders what they discussed at MAS Board Meetings.
Now they put on a nice PR exercise and talk of making RM1 billion profit over the next 5 years.
I think with the existing people in charge, MAS may not be flying in the next 5 years without more bailouts. Even the Star photo appears to convey the message that the airline is just like a toy aeroplane!
Have you noticed the similar arguments on why government linked companies have not been doing well?
Proton and MAS give very similar reasons.
