Data, Lies or Statistics?
We have a very interesting scenario according to the data of the Immigration Department.
During the five years from 2000 to 2004, Malaysia had an accumulation of more than 27 million visitors who did not leave the country if you study the total arrivals and total departures for each year.
Contrary to expectations, the Indonesians are not the biggest culprits. During this 5-year period, the following countries had the most overstayers.
Australia 313376
Brunei 873027
China 691886
UK-Overseas Nationals 115690
UK 365751
Indonesia 2698108
India 456693
Japan 837943
S Korea 439667
Singapore 17086681
Thailand 1269690
Taiwan 238587
USA 203236
This numbers are really interesting, our ASEAN provided the bulk of the numbers and if the data is accurate, Singapore should be having ZERO population. Maybe all those people I saw over the week-end are aliens and the Singaporeans have all moved over the Causeway.
The biggest problem to believing the data is that Singapore's population is definitely less than 4 million, so how can 17m people be in Malaysia?
