Where is Justice?
The national clamor over the AP problem reminds me of a story in the Bible.
In this incident, Jesus came across a group of angry men who wanted to stone a sinful woman as she had been found guilty of adultery.
The mob was very insistent and wanted to punish her as demanded by the law. Jesus then picked up a stone and asked the mob, “Anyone who is without sin among you can cast the first stone.”
Then he began to write in the sand the sins of all those in the angry mob and soon everyone disappeared.
First of all, this is not meant to be a sermon and I am also no expert on the Bible though I did study it in school.
What I am suggesting is that we need to temper justice with some mercy though we should not tamper with justice. If anyone has done wrong, we need to find out why that person erred.
For example, a man who steals some bread to feed his family probably needs some help rather than being thrown into prison. But if people are corrupt and the intention was to enrich themselves, then the judge should not be so merciful.
The sooner corrupt people are replaced, the sooner the practice of corruption will be reduced.
