Apart from messages of sympathy, I have not read and do not know of any assistance given by the Malaysian authorities.

Perhaps there is some notion that the USA, being the world's richest nation, does not need any help.

But even your wealthy neighbour when struck with a major disaster can do with some help no matter how little.

It was quite touching to see Fidel Castro, the longtime foe of the USA, offer assistance so readily. But unfortunately the USA too plays politics ignoring the plight of its own citizens.

For your own peace of mind, do a google on "american red cross" and donate at the official website. A minimum of US$5 is acceptable.
