Entropy and the Future of Malaysia
Every first-year Engineering student has to grapple with Thermodynamics that basically deals with principles of heat and energy.
Most students struggle to visualize the concepts but eventually end up memorizing the exotic formulae and surprisingly, many do graduate as engineers.
So what is entropy and how is it linked to Malaysia?
Entropy is a law that basically means that everything declines ultimately as all systems in the universe are in a continuous state of decay. Like death, it is inevitable.
Maybe our dislike for maintenance of all those beautiful buildings like the leaky grand palace of the PM is the far-sighted acceptance of entropy?
All Malaysian political parties have decayed from the time they started many years ago. Today many parties are a faint shadow of their glorious past. Instead of being a force to generate a love of the country and nationalism, many now cater to narrow interests and even among the larger parties, there appears to be a lack of a common mission except to hang on to power often through undemocratic practices.
Recent party elections show that Malaysian parties are split into various camps; with the cracks just papered over until warring factions find the next opportunity to finish their opponents.
Change for Malaysia may come slowly and it may also come like the tsunami – without warning and with great ferocity. This is just a wake-up call to the silent majority who are reluctant to do anything except to hope and pray for the best.
The Roman Empire lasted for about 400 years before it fell. In the computer age, things happen much faster. Recent history saw the fall of the Soviet bloc that lasted about 50 years. The demolition of the Berlin Wall was the one of the most dramatic scenes shown on television.
Even democratic countries like India, Taiwan and Japan witnessed change as the long ruling parties succumbed to new governments.
As we prepare to celebrate our 48th birthday, all Malaysians should seriously ponder what they must do to make Malaysia a better place.
